The author, warden of the Transvaal Government Game Reserves, describes in detail all manner of African wild life including elephant, lion, rhinoceros, buffalo and a host of antelope species. In his chapter on the lion, Stevenson-Hamilton describes a gruelling duel between Harry Wolhuter, a ranger of the game reserve, who used a hunting knife to slay a lion which was attacking him.
