Compendium of South African History and Geography - Part II

The demand for this book was very strong in 1877. The first publishing in two parts, five batch bindings and an issue were produced in one year! Theal contemplated publishing the third edition in parts of about eighty pages each and requested the Colonial Secretary to solicit the Governor's sanction, in terms of Section 2 of Act 9 of 1874, for these parts to be conveyed in the post at one penny each. He eventually abandoned the idea.
