In original form a Doctoral Thesis submitted to the University of the Witwatersrand in 1970. As is to be expected, this is an in depth study of the tremendous influence the Exeter Hall crowd had on developments in the Eastern Cape, largely through Lord Glenelg and Dr. Philip. The Colonists were vilified and Sir Benjamin D'Urban's policy abruptly and disastrously terminated. The photographs and detailed description of Hintsa's death are most interesting and were not widely known before this study.
