Personal experiences, Adventures, & Wanderings in and around THE ISLAND OF MAURITIUS. The author, a naturalist, was appointed United States consul to Mauritius. On finding a paucity of information on the island, toured the island, and documented the island's topography, culture and ethnography. He gave special attention to its flora and fauna, highlighting the other flightless, now also extinct bird on the island (Aphanapteryx imperialis (now A. bonsai) but also covering First edition of this important work on Mauritius. Includes interesting descriptions of the fauna and flora of the country. There is also an interesting account of the Cape of Good Hope (pp. 35 - 48); and encounters with cyclones.
