The enigmatic last work of the author, which seemd to have a genesis under many names - and remained uncompleted, but has some notes from the author's husband explaining how she meant it to conclude. The story of two sisters, Rebekah and Bertie - both white women living in Cape. One of the sisters stays in Cape and marries, and the other moves to London and becomes a prostitute. The novel is an interesting social commentary on class and race in the mid-century.
