An account of the author's botanical expeditions to various parts of Africa. Hutchinson's background as a botanical specialist from Kew was well known, and in South Africa he was given a very friendly reception by eminent South African botanists. But it was his association with General Smuts, who was also a botanist of note, that makes this book so interesting. Smuts accompanied him in the Northern Transvaal and across the Limpopo to Zimbabwe, and in Tanganyika (Tanzania).
