More info

Barrington was a legendary conman and pickpocket who was transported to Sydney in 1791 upon the frigate Active. His genteel manners and plausible eloquence soon won him a conditional pardon and by 1796 Hunter awarded him a full pardon and appointed him as chief constable at Parramatta. The illustrations are amongst the first coloured views of Sydney.
