Vol 2 of 4. A scarce first edition. Classic first authoritative work on the avifauna of the subcontinent, started by physician and ornithologist Arthur C Stark, who had the misfortune to be killed by a shell while standing on the steps of the Royal Hotel in Ladysmith, Natal. The director of the SA Museum, W L Sclater, completed the work. 

Hardcover. English. R. H. Porter. 1901.  323 pp. Includes fold-out map at back, with small tear. Used condition in cover boards with gold writing to the spine, gold crest on the upper cover. Front hinge is cracked but still holding a little. Book No: 2001633
