First published in 1921 this is the diary of an unknown young girl from a middleclass background, written from when she was eleven to fourteen growing up in Vienna before the First World War. It is beautifully honest, playful, serious and gives a memorable insight into the life of a developing girl to young woman as she strives to understand herself in terms of her relationship with her family and friends.
