Her Amazing Experiences in the Stormy Nineties of South Africa's Story. Freedom, romance and adventure. The author was a young teen and a boarder at Springfield Convent in Wynberg when she eloped with Frederick Rorke, a handsome young professional Irish rugby player. Within a year or two she fell pregnant and lost her husband who died from a neck injury. Further adventures followed when she travelled by ox wagon from Kimberley to Rhodesia. She was one of the earliest white settlers in Bulawayo where she lived until the 2nd Anglo Boer War. She ran a military field hospital with the Rhodesian forces. The book ends with her accepting the Order of the Royal Red Cross and new adventures beckoning.
