The authors have done excellent work in producing a historical record of Pretoria in the form of the pictorial representation of firms in central Pretoria (1889-1913) with notes on the history of the building and site. To old Pretorians the names of the businesses, firms, hotels, their owners, pioneer and commercial activities will bring back pleasant memories and enable readers to while away an hour or so in the days that our city was a South African town, and not the imitation of an American skyscraper complex.
