More info

Our Mutual Friend is the last finished novel by Charles Dickens that was written and published in 1864-1865 (no other novel took him so long). The novel contains several bound storylines, and the main one is the fate of a heritage of a garbage man from London, Harmon. This gloomy miser, who had made his fortune due to municipal contracts, kicked his 14-year-old son John out of the house and hasn’t seen him since. According to the will, the son will come into an inheritance if he marries a woman he has never met, Bella Wilfer, and if this marriage doesn’t take place, the heritage will be passed to an old Harmon’s servant, Noddy Boffin. John came back to London, where he was robbed and announced dead. In reality, he stayed alive, under the false name he got to know Bella and became the secretary of Boffin.
