African Elegance

The aim of this book is to describe in photographs and words the beauty of the tribal people of the Transkei. Caught between western civilisation and ancient tribal life their beauty is a subject filled with poignancy, for the traditional way of life with its songs and dances is vanishing. The national dress, the colourful beadwork and the old customs are fast disappearing. In certain areas pitifully little remains.
